Early Intensive Developmental and
Behavioral Intervention

Covered Services through EIDBI

In order to qualify for EIDBI services, your child needs to meet the following requirements:

  • have an ASD/related developmental diagnosis
  • have a medical need for services through a comprehensive multi-disciplinary evaluation (CMDE)
  • enrolled in a health care program (such as MA, MinnesotaCare, TEFRA)
  • be under the age of 21

Once you qualify, your EIDBI benefit grants your child access to ABA services. That means that a qualified clinic can support your family with an Individual Treatment Plan (ITP), ongoing intervention, caregiver training, progress monitoring, and coordinated meetings with your school, medical or other advocacy groups of your choosing.

The purpose of EIDBI is to support families whose young loved one is impacted with ASD or another developmental condition. These services in Minnesota help remove the financial burden off of families so they can focus on getting the right support team in place.

You can read more about EIDBI here through MN Department of Human Services.

Comprehensive Multi-disciplinary Evaluation (CMDE)

The CMDE is a required assessment for your EIDBI services, and needs to be updated at least once every 3 years. A Qualified Service Professional (QSP) will interview and observe your family during the assessment. They will ask questions about the early years of a child’s life, health history, and review diagnostic reports to help determine whether services are medically necessary. After the report is finalized, you should receive a copy of the report no later than 30 days.

Individual Treatment Plan (ITP)

The QSP will also help support in writing the Individual Treatment Plan (ITP). This report identified current strengths, and areas of needed improvement to help your child develop important life skills. This report will describe exactly what goals will be taught or improved over a 6-month period. The ITP is always based on the learner, so no 2 ITPs should be identical. Treatment plans should target foundational skills like communication, listening skills, social skills, and individual daily living. The goal is to make the biggest impact on your quality of life, and promote positive changes that last over time.
